My favorite scary movie is the original, black and white 1963 movie "The Haunting," starring Julie Harris and Claire Bloom.

There's no gore or violence...just pure psychological terror.  You never really see anything...except out of the corner of your eye.

It's an awesome movie.  Literally everyone I ever recommended it to ends up enjoying it.
